Spokane has heart… (bridge jumper)

…an icky, black one.

So, I was reading the “Rants & Raves” section of Craigslist, getting my daily dose of bullshit this evening, only to learn that the people there are just so feeble and lack any compassion whatsoever. Call me a softy, but I do have compassion for a man, who is obviously very distraught, who is sitting on the side of a bridge, ready to end his life. The people on Craigslist’s only concern: “Oh, no! He’s screwing up the traffic because the bridge is closed!!” If you ask me, I think trying to save a man’s life is worth driving east 7 blocks to go down Washington instead. For crying out loud…

There was also some opinions shared regarding the use of the almighty Tazer. Well, I’m kind of on-the-fence about that one. While I think the Tazer is a horrible and barbaric “weapon” (yes, it is a weapon, kids!), I think it was used as a last means to subdue the guy to save his life. However, I think that by screwing up while using it, they only managed to scare the guy and give him the adrenaline rush he needed to jump. Very sad. Very disappointing.

I felt horribly for the man when I saw the news tonight. Horrible that he will not have the chance to find the comfort and happiness that was lacking in his life last night. Was he really mentally ill, though? I didn’t hear that part in the news, but I always end up hearing it in instances like this and wonder if that is the case.

My heart goes out to his parents, who were present at the time they watched their son plummet to his death on the rocks below. I can’t imagine how difficult that must have been. The whole situation was sad and it was unfortunate that he was unable to be saved.

I hope that the heartless people who were so “inconvenienced” by this and had to drive their whiny asses 7 blocks out of their way will someday wake up and realize how terribly wrong they were to have that kind of thinking. Same with those who just sat at home, on their computers and bitched about it even though it didn’t affect them in the least. Get a life. And to those who were at the scene shouting at the man to jump – there’s a special place in Hell for you.

    What a heartwarming post!

I have never encountered such heartless, inhumane people as I have found on CL.

I posted a question about a child custody problem and someone sent me a personal email saying, “It’s only a kid. F*** em! Another accused me of being a fat, kid producing, welfare whore.

In actualality, I am a 60 yr old grandmother.

I do share your sentiments about the family. Suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem. However, when one is in the depths of depression, sometimes it can seem like the only way out.

I had a brother who committed suicide at 32 yrs. of age and our family has never been the same. That was 13 yrs ago and my mother still blames herself.

Also in the paper this a.m., it stated that a person who encourages
another to commit suicide (or jump) can be charged with a class C felony.
Too bed that isn’t enforced more often.

Thanks for your posting….it brightened my day.
